We had been anticipating the release of this 4-track EP titled "Baddiewock" featuring remixes by Zerena (MX), Conjunto Media Luna (COL), and DJ WEED (MX) that came out via MATRACA (Peru/Spain).
This project means so much to both of us. I get emotional because it’s like as if we gave birth to a slutty daughter and now it’s time for her and her sisters (the remixes) to spread their legs and face the world LOL
We made limited edition CDs that include my and Juanito's joint catalogue up to date, which includes Baddiewock (EP, MATRACA), Ojos Tristes (Single, Po$$$ole), Take A Deep Breath (Single, Traaampaaa), and the stems for the original Baddiewock chune ଘ(੭*ˊᵕˋ)੭* ੈ♡‧₊˚ If you purchased one of these already, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. We really did take a chance with the CDs and it honestly really helped make this entire project feel a lot more sustainable for me and Juani.
We hosted an intimate listening party at Lost Tonic halfway through August with the help of Sam and it was so so wholesome. I’ve attached a collab IG post with Juani below with a few highlights from the evening and tags from everyone who got involved. We released a sample pack in order to keep the #Pequefund active.
This sample pack contains 55 samples from our album “Phantom”. A selection of kicks, pads, textures, percussive hits! Thank you in advance for your support—we hope that these sounds are inspiring and nourishing to your sonic explorations. We performed with these samples on our LIVE debut for More Noise Please.
I didn’t have a Substack when I published my own sample pack last year, so here it is in case you were looking for more interesting sounds to add to your sample library. All samples are from my debut EP “ID-ASS”. #Assfund
Last but not least, we released a new single as Pequephone with Juani! “jal’s practice (la priragua)” (j—Juan,al—some people call me Al) is an unintentional cover of “La Piragua” by José Barros. The song is a recording of me fooling around with a vocal processor I rented over a beat that Juan had drafted on their phone; we later added “piragua” lyrics to it, leveled the track (we’re trying to not use the word “master” because of its colonial and racist connotations) and decided to put it out before the end of September.
It’s been really liberating to work as Pequephone! We’re not aiming for perfection with this project, we just want to have fun and not overthink anything that is born from our collaboration.
I know there’s literally a million things happening in the city of Tkaronto tomorrow (Oct 4) but in case you’re looking for something to do/another event to check out, our friends invited us to DJ at Lost Tonic. We’re on at 10pm! I am beyond excited to be able to play all the weird ass tracks that I don’t usually get to spin at the club that I love and have inspired me to make the music I make.
