Pequephone
#band
Juanito and I finally found the perfect name for the band we kept wanting to incorporate as. The name comes from a children’s toy that resembles a mobile phone; it has bilingual sound files that play when you press on certain keys as well as some dog and cat sounds. My guess is that it was designed to help parents trick their children into using the toy instead of a real smartphone. Or at least that’s the reason my brother bought my niece her Pequephone.
I visited my family last year when my brother’s second daughter was about to be born, every time my first niece wanted to play with a smartphone, she was given her Pequephone instead. When I told Juan about the toy they resonated with the name, and so we could finally agree on a name for our band.
I briefly mentioned our first project on my “Techno-skepticism” post here a while back. We ended up deciding to release this project independently because labels keep sleeping on us and to be honest, we have had some very mid experiences with some of the labels that have published and distributed our music. It’s honestly incredibly heartbreaking to work so hard on music, only to have other people not treat it with the respect it deserves. Don’t be surprised if we continue releasing music independently moving forward.
We produced “Phantom” during the Aberrant AI Residency at UKAI Projects we participated on at the end of last year. The project explores eerie samples, uncanny sonic landscapes, and ambient digital compositions. 10 minutes of sound curation and arrangement designed to help you discociate and/or reflect. We’re excited to continue releasing music together and expanding our catalogue. We had a lot of fun exploring AI as a tool for art making, we’ll see what else stems from our AI explorations in the future.
Disclaimer, there is a variety of loud and sudden sounds here and there, do not panic.
If you have already listened or engaged with our Phantom posts on IG, bless you. Thanks for your feedback and continued support.
XOXO
